About the Weekly Summer Themes
Week 1: Summer Explorers
Dive into summer! Campers will identify ways that summer differs from other seasons and focus on experiences that are unique to the summer months. We will take a nature walk to a neighborhood park and collect items to use in a classroom collage. We will learn about summer weather and the clothes that we wear. We’ll have lots of fun reading stories and creating crafts related to our summertime theme.
Week 2: The Fabulous Five Senses
This week, campers will explore how we learn through the five senses: touch, smell, sight, taste, and sound. Engaging in hands-on sensory activities, they’ll investigate textures, identify scents, observe visuals, sample flavors, and listen to everyday sounds. These activities are designed to help children better understand their environment while developing important observational and cognitive skills. It’s a fun and educational journey into the science of the fabulous five senses!
Week 3: Fun with Nature
This week, campers explore the natural sciences and uncover the wonders of our land, air, and sea. Through hands-on activities and outdoor adventures, they’ll learn about the plants, animals, and ecosystems that make up our environment. From examining leaves to observing clouds, campers will develop a deeper understanding of the world around them and the importance of caring for it.
Week 4: On the Go!
This week, campers will learn about some remarkable places around the world and the transportation methods that connect us to them. Through hands-on activities, they will study boats, planes, and trains, exploring how these vehicles operate and their roles in travel.
Week 5: Read S’more
This week, we explore the wonders of animals and their habitats. Campers will journey into the wild through books, stories, and activities about fascinating creatures and the places they live. We’ll also create and enjoy delicious sun butter s’mores.
Week 6: Music Around the World
This week, campers will explore rhythms, songs, and instruments from different cultures. Through hands-on activities, they will study musical traditions, learn about unique instruments, and create their own music. Each day will include crafts and stories that highlight the significance of music.
Week 7: Dino-rama
This week, campers will journey back to prehistoric times to learn about dinosaurs and their ancient world. Through interactive activities, they will watch a homemade volcano eruption, create their own dinosaur eggs, and explore what life was like millions of years ago. Each day will foster a deeper understanding of these fascinating creatures and their environment.
Week 8: Wonders of the Rainforest
This week, campers will explore the wonders of the rainforest and its unique ecosystems. Through engaging activities, they will learn about the fascinating ways animals, plants, and humans interact to maintain these vibrant environments.
Week 9: Healthy Me
This week we focus on taking care of our health, covering topics such as nutritious eating, proper hygiene practices, and the importance of restful sleep. Through interactive games, crafts, and mindfulness activities, children learn about the essentials of a healthy lifestyle.
Week 10: Creation Station
This imagination-packed week has us playing pretend and getting creative. Through hands-on activities, children will develop their storytelling skills, explore imaginative play, and create original works of art.
Summer Fun
Children have ample opportunities to be active this summer either in our outdoor playground or on the Gerstung equipment and Imagination Playground located in our gym.
We offer “water play day” most Fridays, which includes time for the children to play with water toys and run in the sprinkler. On temperate days, the class will spend additional time outdoors doing daily lessons, eating lunch and snack, gardening, and taking neighborhood walks.
