Application Procedures and Requirements
The New Century School does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, or national or ethnic origin in the admissions policy, educational policies, or any other program administered by the school.
TNCS is currently accepting applications for the 2020–2021 academic year. You may also apply for the current school year under our rolling admissions policy.
Elementary and Middle School Application Process (Grades K–8)
Admissions decisions for Elementary and Middle School candidates are based on careful consideration of the application, student visit, and prior school transcripts. The following steps are required in order for your application to be considered complete:
Submit an Online Application
TNCS uses Blackbaud K-12, which allows you to submit your application online, upload required paperwork electronically, and monitor the status of your application. You will be asked to create an account to begin your application. You may start your application now and return to complete it later. Start or continue your application here >
Student Shadow and Parent Interview
When your completed application is received and reviewed by the Admissions Committee, the Office of Admissions will contact you to schedule a time for your child’s student shadow and parent interview. Lasting a full day, the student shadow is an important time for your child to experience a TNCS classroom and meet with students, faculty, and administration. During your child’s student shadow, you will have the opportunity to meet with a member of the school administration for your parent interview.
Request Supporting Documentation
Depending on your child’s grade level, please arrange for school transcripts and teacher recommendations to be sent to TNCS from your child’s current school. You may use the Request for School Records form to facilitate this process.
TNCS will contact you after reviewing your completed application packet (application; prior school transcripts; financial aid application, if applicable).
Admissions decisions for the 2020–2021 school year will be communicated by February 21, 2019.
Preschool Application Process (Ages 2–5)
Admissions decisions for Preschool candidates are based on careful consideration of the application, student shadow, and parent interviews. The following steps are required in order for your application to be considered complete:
Submit an Application
TNCS uses Blackbaud K-12, which allows you to submit your application online. You will be asked to create an account to begin your application. You may start your application now and return to complete it later. Start or continue your application here >
Student Shadow and Parent Interview
All preschool applicants are required to attend a 30-minute student shadow to experience a classroom at TNCS. During this time, teachers assess the child’s readiness while parents meet with Director of Admissions for a brief interview.
Step 4: Admissions Decision
TNCS priority enrollment for all eligible students and applicants goes first to returning students, then to siblings of current students and siblings of newly admitted elementary students. Preferential consideration may be given to full-day applicants in preschool programs. Length of time in the waiting pool of applicants is also considered, although TNCS does not fill spots based on a strictly first-come, first-served basis. Preschool students receive priority consideration for kindergarten; however, enrollment is not guaranteed, and current students must apply for admission to kindergarten.
Admissions decisions for the 2020–2021 school year will be communicated by March 6, 2020.
TNCS students are motivated to take risks and creatively solve problems, developing independence and self-esteem.
The New Century School is a thriving community of multilingual students and families. To connect with Spanish- or Mandarin Chinese–speaking staff, who can help facilitate the application process, please Contact Us.
