2021 Summer Art Camp Descriptions

Ancient Civilizations

Ancient Civilizations

Explore ancient civilizations such as the Aztecs, Mayans, Egyptians, and Grecians through art. You’ll have fun painting, drawing, and using other forms of art as you work on projects like creating a Mayan sun calendar or an Egyptian amulet.

Around the World

Around the World

Let’s take a trip around the world and explore art as we go. Each day, we’ll focus on art from a different area of the world, practicing painting, drawing, and crafts as we go.

Art and Artists

Art and Artists

Let’s take a look at wonderful, creative artists, past and present, and see what we can learn from them! This is a hands-on class that involves a variety of different media. Join us for a fun way to learn about artists, and to practice it ourselves!

Book It!

Book It!

Go “behind the scenes” of how books are made. Explore different formats, like short comics, picture books, zines, or graphic novels. Explore paper engineering in storytelling. Have fun playing story games, and try your hand at book binding. You’ll also get to choose your favorite format for a weekly project.

The Carnival of the Animals

The Carnival of the Animals

Join Jia Liu, a professional picture book writer and illustrator, for an upbeat animal themed camp based on the humorous musical suite about animals by the French Romantic composer Camille Saint-Saëns. Children will enjoy moving to the music, creating animal art, exploring different techniques–such as collage and wire art–and engaging in story telling in this fun-filled week.

Fractured Fairy Tales

Fractured Fairy Tales

Using drawing and illustration techniques, students reimagine classic fairy tales and give them a modern day twist. Using classics, for example Little Red Riding Hood or Hansel and Gretel, students twist the story line according to their imagination. This may include creating art from an alternate perspective (like the wolf’s or the witch’s). Students use drawing, painting, and other techniques to create their unique takes on the classic fairy tale.

Magical Creatures

Magical Creatures

Join us as we explore the world of magical creatures–such as unicorns, centaurs, griffins, and fairies–with paintings, drawings, and crafts.

Out of This World

Out of This World

Moon, stars, and extraterrestrial worlds! This week, we look to the skies for artistic inspiration. From Van Gogh’s Starry Night to our own creations, we use art to express the wonder of space.

Outdoor Art

Outdoor Art

This week we’ll be taking inspiration from the outdoor world. Whether looking at patterns in nature or creating our own chalk murals, we’ll be spending time both in and out of the classroom as we make art.

STEAM Labs

STEAM Labs

During STEAM Labs, campers explore how science, technology, engineering, and math are used in art. Children undertake experiments and tests that encourage curiosity and discovery. Experiments vary based on age but may include: building a strong bridge with limited materials, formulating our own paint, and understanding the theory behind marbling art.

STEAM Labs is designed to encourage problem solving and innovation–and to make sure children have fun while doing it!
